Apple releases iOS and iPadOS 13.6, macOS 10.15.6, and watchOS 6.2.8

(credit: Samuel Axon ) Today, Apple released software updates for all of its platforms, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and HomePod. The updates should be rolling out to users around the world throughout the day. In general, the updates are fairly small in scope. As usual, iOS 13.6 and iPadOS 13.6 are the beefiest, but they're still small. The flagship feature is the addition of support for digital car keys on the iPhone. Additionally, Apple has added voice-narrated stories to Apple News+, as well as expanded local news and customization options in the News app. There's also a new "symptoms" category in the Health app, plus a variety of bug fixes. Sonos says it’s forced to raise prices while trying to win back customers

During what's supposed to be a year of redemption, Sonos has announced that its gadgets will become more expensive this year, complicating the company's comeback plans. Tariffs that US President Donald Trump announced last week take effect today, including a 19 percent tariff on goods imported from Malaysia (the levy is said not to apply to semiconductors and was cut down from a 25 percent tariff that Trump threatened in July.) Among other countries affected is Vietnam, which now sees a 20 percent tariff (down from the 46 percent rate announced in April). Another one for the graveyard: Google to kill Instant Apps in December

Apps used to be the measure of a mobile platform's worth, with Apple and Google dueling over who could list the most items in their respective stores. Today, the numbers don't matter as much—there are enough apps, and Google's attempt to replace parts of the web with apps is going away. Instant Apps , a feature that debuted in 2017, will reportedly be scrapped in December 2025. In its place, you'll just have to use the Internet. Developer Leon Omelan spotted this news buried in the latest Canary release of Android Studio (confirmed by Android Authority ).
